The snake is considered to be one of the more mysterious 12 Chinese zodiac animals. Cunning and intelligent, knowing it couldn't swim well, Snake hitched a ride on Horse's hoof and jumped out of the river at the very end, scaring Horse and allowing Snake to be placed before Horse in the zodiac order. That's why Ekans (#023) is ahead of Ponyta (#077) in the Pokédex. 🐍
