Releasing in Japan on March, 14, 2025, Heat Wave Arena will be the ninth Japanese subset from the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet era. It is the Japanese counterpart of the upcoming English set, Destined Rivals (releasing May 2025).

Heat Wave Arena will contain 63 main set cards (the number of Secret Rares TBA) and continue to feature the “Trainer’s Pokémon” cards re-introduced in Battle Partners. The trainers that will be spotlighted in Heat Wave Arena are Ethan, Cynthia, Arven, and a trainer from the original release of Trainer’s Pokémon cards, Misty!

The pack art of Heat Wave Arena features Ethan’s Ho-Oh, for which maybe the set was named as a nod to the move Heat Wave (though Ho-Oh only learns the move via TM or move tutor in the games). A Special Art Rare for Ethan’s Ho-Oh has also already been revealed and has many comparing it to the Lugia V Secret Rare from Silver Tempest / Paradigm Trigger. It’s possible we may see SARs for the remaining two Pokémon featured -- Cynthia’s Garchomp and Arven’s Mabosstiff.

The full card list for Heat Wave Arena isn't available yet, but here are the Secret Rares that have been revealed so far. We'll continue to update as more cards come out!

Here are a couple of examples of how the trainer avatar will appear on the “Trainer’s Pokémon” cards. Like Battle Partners, not every card in Heat Wave Arena will be a “Trainer’s Pokémon” card.

A note about the Pokémon TCG Illustration Contest 2024 Promo Cards. The three winning illustrations from last year's Pokémon TCG Illustration Contest will be released as promo cards.

In Japan, the promo cards will be released as a 3 card booster pack that will be given out to those who purchase a Heat Wave Arena booster box at participating retailers (while supplies last).

In the US, the promo cards are not tied to the release date of Heat Wave Area. The promo cards are instead expected to be available starting February 21, 2025 through the Pokémon Center and participating retailers (while supplies last).
