Released on August 1, 2025, Mega Brave, in conjunction with Mega Symphonia, are the dual first main expansion sets from the new Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution era. They are the Japanese counterparts of the upcoming English set, Mega Evolution (Base set), releasing September 26, 2025.

We have officially left the days of Scarlet & Violet behind and are entering a new era -- Mega Evolution! This new era parallels the upcoming console release, Legends: Z-A, and its reintroduction of Mega evolutions.
Mega Brave, in particular, features the return of Mega Lucario, Mega Venusaur, Mega Absol, Mega Mawile, and Mega Camerupt.

When the end of Scarlet & Violet was first announced, there were some rumors that Art Rare and Special Art Rare cards may change in some significant capacity. However, with this release, it looks like ARs and SARs are sticking around just as they’ve been.

That's not to say there aren't any changes coming into a new era and I'm excited to see what else follows as new sets get released! Here's what we've seen so far:

  • A new gold card rarity has been introduced called Mega Ultra Rare (MUR). These gold cards are different from previous ones in that the card art is unique and not simply a gold version of the corresponding full art card (SR).
  • There are now full art versions of Trainer cards (previously, they were only in sets as gold cards).
  • Full art cards now have a shimmery, glitter layer on top.
  • For TCG players, the Mega evolution mechanic has a slight change from XY. MEgas now evolve from their final pre-evolution stage (e.g. Mega Venusaur ex evolves from Stage 2 Ivysaur), rather than from their fully evolved Basic ex card. Also, instead of the player's turn ending after evolving, Megas now give up three Prize Cards when knocked out.

Curious as to which cards are the most valuable from Mega Brave? Here are the Top 12. (compiled from various sources such as TCGPlayer, Collectr, Pricecharting, etc.)

Pokémon Ranger Kat's Bonus Pick: The Marshadow Art Rare is a two for one card Pokémon deal with Marshadow casting Shadowy Side Kick on an unsuspecting Pikachu.

Pokémon content creator, Danireon, also pointed out in a video that this card art actually depicts the same scene found in another Marshadow card illustrated by the same artist, just from a different POV.

Both cards were illustrated by the artist, 0313. How cool is it that they had the opportunity to do this 6 years later!
