Released on June 6, 2025, Black Bolt and White Flare are dual eleventh main and final expansion sets from the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet era. They are the Japanese counterpart of the upcoming English special sets of the same names (releasing July 18, 2025).
Black Bolt and White Flare is Gen V’s answer to 151, but with an even bigger twist: every Pokémon in the Unova Pokédex gets an Art Rare or Special Art Rare! That means that between the two sets there are over 156 illustration cards.
In addition, each Unova Pokémon is also featured in a regular card, a reverse holo card, a Poké Ball reverse holo card, and a Master Ball reverse holo card.
A new card rarity was also introduced called BWR (Black White Rare), which features a monochromatic, holographic color scheme complementary to the Pokémon featured. There is only one per set and seems to have replaced gold cards with this release.
Black Bolt and White Flare is the first Japanese dual set (related sets released on the same day) since Wild Force and Cyber Judge, and the first English dual set released ever. Each set has its own discrete card list with no overlap.

Pokémon Ranger Kat's Bonus Pick: I don’t personally collect many cards by artist, but when I first started collecting, two artists really stood out to me with their use of physical mediums to create their card art.
One of the two artists is Yuka Morii, who creates ridiculously detailed miniature Pokémon figures out of modeling clay and then photographs them in natural environments. While overall, she’s credited for 215 cards, the Klinklang Art Rare is only her fourth full illustration card (after the Aipom Art Rare from Paradox Rift, the Draipon V Ultra Rare from Crown Zenith, and the Venusaur & Snivy GX Sun & Moon promo), so I’m excited to add this card to my collection!
