The Top 12 Cards From Mega Evolution Base

Updated 9/29/2025

Released on September 26, 2025, Mega Evolution (Base set) is the first main English expansion set from the new Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution series. It is the English counterpart of the Japanese sets, Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia.

We've officially left the days of Scarlet & Violet behind and are entering a new era -- Mega Evolution! This new era also parallels the upcoming console release, Legends: Z-A, and its reintroduction of Mega evolutions.
Some Megas featured in this set include Mega Lucario, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Venusaur, Mega Latias, and Mega Absol, with more sure to come as sets from this new era continue to be released.

Here's a brief overview of what's changed from Scarlet & Violet:

  • A new gold card rarity has been introduced called Mega Hyper Rare. These gold cards are different from previous ones in that the card art is unique and not simply a gold version of the corresponding full art card.
  • There are now full art versions of Trainer cards (previously, they were only in sets as gold cards).
  • For TCG players, the Mega evolution mechanic has a slight change from XY. MEgas now evolve from their final pre-evolution stage (e.g. Mega Venusaur ex evolves from Stage 2 Ivysaur), rather than from their fully evolved Basic ex card. Also, instead of the player's turn ending after evolving, Megas now give up three Prize Cards when knocked out.

Curious as to which cards are the most valuable from Mega Evolution Base? Here are the Top 12. (compiled from various sources such as TCGPlayer, Collectr, Pricecharting, etc.)

Please note that this set was only recently released, so top cards may change as the market settles.
